Building Bridges For Peace

August 23rd, 2017 · Comments

Listen to this podcast that looks at the remarkable story of how one person overcame tragedy by building bridges for peace and reconciliation in our communities here and around the world.

Jo’s father Sir Anthony Berry was killed in the bombing in the Grande Hotel in Brighton during a Conservative Party Conference. To try to understand this Jo sought out the perpetrator of that bombing, Patrick McGee when he was released from prison after the Good Friday Agreement.

They came to an understanding and became friends and both have now devoted their life to bringing people together in dialogue to resolve conflict and create understanding. They have worked tirelessly at doing this in Northern Ireland and have also worked in the Middle East.

Here we can listen to Jo’s story and how she believes by addressing our common humanity we can overcome even the most horrific of conflicts.

The Art Of Community Building

May 21st, 2014 · Comments

communitybuilding.jpeg Community building is a craft not an exact science and those taking it forward are artists. Many of the skills required for sustainable community building cannot be learned, they come naturally to people and it is those individuals who make the best Community Builders.

Nurture Development together with their ABCD Network has the mission to help establish a Community Builder in every neighbourhood and so we hope that this Webinar will help you to identify the individuals with the natural gifts around you.

During this Podcast we will explore:

• What is community building?

• Who can 'do' community building and what are the core characteristics of a Community Builder?

• What are the building blocks of community?

How do you identify them, strengthen or build them, and mobilise them?

Cormac.jpgCormac Russell will present this podcast. Cormac set up Nurture Development in 1996 and is the organisation’s Managing Director.  He has trained directly under Professor John McKnight, the co-founder of the ABCD approach. As well as being a faculty member of the ABCD Institute at Northwestern University in the United States, he is a Co-Director of ABCD Europe.

Sustainable Giving

August 7th, 2013 · Comments

Michael Young talks about sustainable giving.Based on the principle that people want to give and are not looking for anything in return but if someone was able to give £10 and 4 weeks later received £20 back then I am now in a better position to give another £10 and so now my efforts are completely sustainable. It is a very powerful new method of giving that means more money can be raised for projects and it works for those who are short of funds but would like to give to a worthy cause.
