Migration, Culture & Mental Health

March 23rd, 2011

Do we really understand the circumstantial and cultural differences that can impact on mental health?

In this podcast we discuss equality and the stigma still largely attached to mental health issues, creating awareness on different cultural beliefs that can often make access to services difficult, and the issue of making access to counselling and mental health care more readily available to ethnic minority communities. We particularly explore the plight of refugees and asylum seekers.

In the podcast we hear,

Bertine de Jongh: has extensive experience in the area of migration and mental health, both as a researcher and practitioner and

Josephine Gikuyu -  a Community Development Worker [for BME Communities & Mental Health Promotion] for NHS Kingston and the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames.
